The contest was founded by the University of Pécs, Faculty of Sciences, Institute of Geography, Department of Human Geography and Urban Studies with the co-operation of the Hungarian Geographic Association and with the Society for Geographic Teachers in 2009.
The aim of the contest is to stimulate active interest in geographical and environmental studies among students, to support those students who have particular knowledge in the field of human or physical geography. A further goal is to select the representatives of the Hungarian national team for the International Geographical Olympiad (iGeo) organized by the International Geographic Union.
